Dillon Lake

DescriptionDillon Lake and Peak 1

The Dillon Lake ride is a 19 mile loop around scenic Lake Dillon.  The ride takes you along mostly paved trails through Frisco, Dillon, and towards Keystone Resort until you ascend up over Swan Mountain Rd.

The Route

The ride can be started anywhere along the route.  Starting from the Frisco Marina, ride north along the bike path that will take you along Dillon Lake passing by the Heaton Bay Campground and along the Dam road into Dillon.  From Dillon, continue along the bike path, which is shared by motor vehicles through the Dillon Marina.  Continue along as it becomes a bike only path again and curves around and heads towards Keystone.  Ride west up and over Swan Mountain Rd. until you reach Highway 9.  Cross over Highway 9 and connect up with the Frisco Farmers trail and head west towards Frisco.  Make your first right on the paved trail that turns into Miners Creek Rd and crosses over Highway 9, then connect back up with the paved trail and ride back into Frisco Marina.

Hazards

Swan Mountain Rd. has some narrow shoulders, but on weekends the bigger hazard is likely the high cyclist and pedestrian traffic along the paved Frisco - Farmers Korner Trail and the weavy paved trail near Heaton Bay campground.

Difficulty

Beyond a short challenging climb up over Swan Mountain Rd that ascends roughly 500 feet in a couple of miles the ride is mostly flat paved trails.

Overall Rating:

This is a great Colorado ride.  Challenging, but also easy enough for the whole family.  The paved trails may get a little busy on summer weekends, but provide fantastic views of Lake Dillon and the surrounding forest..
