Pleasant Park

Description

The Pleasant Park ride is challenging 26 mile up and back down ride, but the scenery more than makes up for the work on this fantastic ride.  You can take a break up at the top at the historic Pleasant Park school.

Difficulty

The ride is extremely challenging with 13 miles of pure climbing to an elevation of 8200 ft.  The 2 miles the ride ascends up High Grade road is one of the toughest climbs in Colorado.

The Route

From Wadsworth and Deer Creek Canyon road ride west until you reach South Deer Creek Canyon road, turn left and follow it all the way to the top as the road changes names to High Grade and eventually Pleasant Park.

Hazards

The first 3 miles follows along Deer Creek Canyon Rd. can have heavy traffic and on week days you are forced to compete for the road with the gravel trucks from the rock quary, beyond that however the traffic is light.

Overall Rating:

The ride is incredibly challenging and has some beautiful scenery and views.  After the first 3 miles the traffic lightens up and in some areas you practically have the entire road for yourself.  Once you reach the top you are rewarded with a 30+ MPH scenic descent to the bottom.
