The Rabbit Ears Pass ride is a 44 mile out and back ride from Steamboat
Springs to the summit of Rabbit Ears pass and back. The ride features
a grueling relentless climb, spectacular views, rolling and sometimes
windy hills, and a long fast descent back down to Steamboat Springs.
The Route
From Steamboat Springs ride east on Highway 40 climbing
up over the west summit of Rabbit Ears and then on to the actual summit
of Rabbit Ears at 9426 feet and then ride back.
Hazards
Highway 40 has lots of fast traffic and its share of rumble strips.
Luckily this section of Highway 40 also has wide clean shoulders.
Also, the fast descent coming down the west summit is rumble strip
free so you can stay off the highway at all times.
Difficulty
There is a long grueling unrelenting 7 mile climb up to the west summit
of Rabbit Ears where you will likely be spinning with you granny gear.

Rating:
It has its share of exhaust and brake fumes, but this is a great ride
with lots of spectacular views and despite the heavy traffic it is pretty
safe with wide clear shoulders.
