South Platte Trail

DescriptionS. Platte Trail crossing the river

The South Platte Trail is a scenic bike pathway that runs continuously along the South Platte River from Chatfield through downtown Denver and all the way up north to Commerce City.  The path goes in and out of some pretty parks and some smelly industrial areas.  Along the trail be sure to stop at Hudson Gardens in Littleton for a fruit smothie and the REI flagship store in Denver to check out the latest gear.

The Route

From Chatfield and the C-470 path, ride south for half as long as your legs will take you or you have time, then head back.

Difficulty

The route is completely flat and the path is shelted from the wind by the trees.

Hazards

The path is off road and goes under bridges when crossing all roads.  On warm weekends it can be a fairly busy path in certain areas, so watch out for stray children and dogs.

Overall Rating: 2 stars

The path is great for its very long stretch of off road riding for those who do not wish to risk their lives with all the careless drivers on the road.   However, I have had a lot more close calls with children who tend to be magentically drawn into my path than by any car.  The path also goes in and out of some pretty scenery.
