The Route

From Pine Junction ride south on Pine Valley Road CR 126.  As you go through the town of Deckers the road name changes to CO 67 or South Deckers Road.  Continue south on CO 67 until you reach Woodland Park.  If you are looking to make it an out and back ride you can use Deckers as a midway point and start from either end.

Hazards

As you near Woodland Park the shoulder narrows and the traffic increases.  A bike path begins about 4 miles outside of Woodland Park that will get you off the road, but with all the sand and debris on the path, it maybe a more dangerous alternative.

Difficulty

This is a tough ride with over 4000 feet of climbing. It combines two two thousand feet climbs with the first one coming out of Buffalo Creek and the second coming out of Deckers to Woodland Park.  There are very few flat areas on this ride.  You are either climbing or descending.

This ride could be a little grueling if you are not prepared, but the road is great, the traffic is low, the river valley near Deckers is scenic, and the Pikes Peak views are incredible.  If you are in the area give it whirl.
